Casting & Character Profiles

Our original expedition into the woodland to film a mock up sequence of what the final film would look like featured two zombies, played by group member Laura Sheasby and college peer Hannah Shepherd.

The romantic couple were, in the VERY beginning played by Jack Wright and Faye Slater. However this was changed shortly afterwards as broader acting skills were required from the male lead. His role was then changed to that of the dead corpse and the boy’s role went to myself, Liam Owen.

We found that actually going out and performing a dress rehearsal of our final film was necessary in order to correctly cast people in the correct role.

I and Faye Slater were able to imitate a close couple because of our long friendship with one another, while Laura Sheasby and Hannah Shepherd were excellent in their roles of zombies, imitating the styles seen in 28 days later, and Dawn of the Dead.

It is now planned to keep the actors in their current roles for when we film the actual sequence, however as a group we decided that Hannah Shepherd’s part was no longer required as we would use only one zombie initially, with the corpse returning from the dead at the very end of the sequence, to reign havoc on the couple.

We also decided, in a sly homage to Titanic to name the two starring characters after Leonardo Decaprio and Kate Winslet. We did this to signify that this couple are truly in love, yet unknown events are destined to tear them apart.
